The documentary project "Climbing Under the Skin" is a profound story about how Ukrainian tattoos have transformed from an aesthetic expression of personality into a symbol of invincibility, for which the occupiers punish with torture and death. The film reveals the fates of people who have gone through incredible trials because of their own beliefs: from soldiers whose patriotic drawings became the cause of brutal massacres, to craftswomen who risked their lives, branding Ukrainians with freedom under occupation. Combining real testimonies with animated reconstructions of events, the film draws a parallel between embroidery as a "genetic code" and tattoos as an integral part of inner freedom, which the enemy is trying to destroy, but which only eats deeper under the skin.
